Baart misses chance to set record straight

This is part twelve in a series of charges stemming from Aaron Baart’s chapel service from March of 2015 regarding sexuality. This is the twelfth charge:

Prior to filing these charges with Aaron’s home church, he had the opportunity to redeem himself. If Aaron didn’t intend to promote false teaching, if we misinterpreted him, then he should be able to affirm the following statements, but he would not.

*I firmly believe that H.C. 109 and 111 apply equally to homosexual thoughts and desires.

*I believe that just as Jesus teaches, that looking at another man’s wife with sexual desire is sin…homosexual thoughts and desires are sin even without actions.

*I believe 1 Cor. 6 when it says that homosexuals will not enter the Kingdom of God, unless they repent.

*I believe that sexual immorality (including homosexuality) shouldn’t once be named among us as fitting for God’s people (Eph. 5:3).

*I do not believe that Christians should be at the front of the gay pride parade.

*I believe intentionally viewing pornography is a sin, not just a disease.

The entire Gospel is at stake. It is a false gospel if you redefine what the Bible calls sin (and since God’s standards will be used on judgement day, down to the thoughts and intentions of the heart, even though we would like to say that it is not sin, the most loving thing to do is call homosexual sin…sin, so they can repent before judgement day.)

“But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Mt. 5:28)

Jesus makes it clear, along with H.C. 109 and 113, committing adultery in your desires is a form of culpable adultery and fornication in your heart is a form of culpable fornication. Could homosexuality be the lone exception?

“For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come — sexual immorality, theft, murder,” (Mk. 7:21)

God’s standards for righteousness are impossible in our own strength! We must be born again and have our desires renewed. If we do not understand that our will (desires) are in bondage to sin, we do not understand the Gospel! This concept is vitally important and detailed in Article 14 BCF.

Aaron in his sermon puts forth a Pelegian (humanistic) distortion of Original Sin (Article 15, BCF).

As pastors and elders in the CRC, you must subscribe to the system of doctrine taught in our Three Forms of Unity. These documents require a Reformed Biblical Systematic Theology and corresponding Reformed Hermeneutic on issues such as homosexuality. If you cannot understand Aaron’s teaching on this subject as false teaching, you likely have not studied and understood the very documents that you have subscribed to uphold.
